JACKSON, Miss. – School may have already started back for some of you, but it will not be that way next year. Thanks to new legislation, the year 2014 school will not be starting back until the third Monday of August. House Education Committee Chair John Moore says that push back is for tourism.
“The Gulf Coast Business Council is the one who studied tourism state wide. The numbers kind of astounding, like $150-$200 million in lost revenue to the state,” said Moore.
Moore says next year teachers will still get paid for the full month of August, but students will probably be getting out of school later.
