- An arrest has been made in the murder of four victims in the Lauderdale County town of Toomsuba. Suspect Karon D. McVay is believed to have had a relationship with Tomecca Pickett, one of the three women killed.
- Mississippi universities opting not to fly the state flag featuring the Confederate emblem will not be penalized for that decision. The state House rejecting an amendment that would have halted bond money to those universities by a 52-65 vote.
- That December cat boiling incident has spawned a jail sentence for a third person. 23 year old Carmen Coleman will spend 30 days in jail for her role. as the videographer of the abuse. The cat died after the dousing.
- A Mississippi hiker is safe this morning, rescued after 19 hours stranded in Alabama’s Bankhead National Forest. Upon breaking his ankle while hiking with friends, John McBride’s pals hiked the six miles out for help, but rescue was delayed because of a vehicle ban in the forest.
- It’s National Margarita Day. The salt rimmed concoction is believed to have been first served in 1938 at a restaurant north of Mexico’s Rosarito Beach. It was created by an accommodating bartender for a former Ziegfeld Follies dancer who was allergic to almost every liquor, except tequila.
