JACKSON, Miss.–While several counties in west and central Mississippi remain under a heat advisory until 7 p.m. Friday, there could be some relief coming in the form of an increase in rain chances.
The heat advisory is still on for Holmes, Humphreys, Hinds, Warren, Rankin, Madison, Claiborne, Copiah, Carroll, Grenada, Jefferson, Lincoln, Adams and Franklin counties. The heat index was still expected in the 104 to 105 range.
Afternoon storms were expected to become more numerous by Saturday in most areas. Even though temps were expected to stay in the mid 90s, a combination of the heat going down a couple of degrees, plus the added cloud cover is expected to keep the heat index in the lower 100s. That’s just under the heat stroke risk level.
You are still encouraged to maintain your heat precautions. Drink plenty of water, stay out of the heat as much as possible, take frequent breaks, wear light colored, loose-fitting clothing and check on your neighbors.
Never leave a child in a hot car.
