Justice for Jessica faces further delay.
The Jessica in question is well-known to Mississippians. Just nineteen years of age, Jessica Chambers was doused with gasoline and set afire in 2014. The Courtland teenager was essentially burned alive and the man accused of her murder was scheduled to go to trial by this summer.
But this week, at a status hearing, the trial of Quinton Tellis was postponed until October 9th. The daughter of one of Tellis’s attorneys has to have a medical procedure, which is a factor in the delay.
Another status hearing on June 19th in Batesville will determine the location of the Tellis trial, along with criteria for jury selection.
