Sargento expands recall

The FDA announced a recall of certain Sargento cheese products last week, and now other recalls have been declared because of the possibility of containing the listeria-tainted cheese.

Sargento has added more of their cheese products to the recall, and has also dropped their supplier.

Country Fresh, LLC. of Conroe, Texas, is recalling 2,552 cases of various cooking and snacking products that contained Sargento branded cheeses because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The products were shipped to various retailers in the south, including in Mississippi, under the Country Fresh and store brand labels below:

The product in question will have the  “BEST IF — USED BY” dates between January 19, 2017 (1/19/17) through February 17, 2017 (2/17/17). No products except those on this list are subject to this recall.

The recall was issued, but no illnesses have been reported.
“Nothing is more important than ensuring that consumers enjoy nothing but high quality, nutritious, and safe and wholesome products from us” said Bryan Herr, Country Fresh’s President.

A second recall for stuffed mushrooms was issued, but it does not impact the Magnolia state.
If you’ve purchased these items, you can take them back for a refund.
