Cowboys and cowgirls from all over the country and the world are in Jackson this week for the Dixie National Rodeo.
This is the 52 year the event has been held in the capital city and is the largest professional rodeo east of the Mississippi River.
Organizers expect more than 50,000 people to make their way to the Coliseum for the event.
Estimates have the rodeo bringing in somewhere close $8.5 million.
Mike Mathis is the rodeo announcer and tells local media, “I don’t think they ever had an idea probably that it would be this large.” We have cowboys from about 41 states, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Brazil,” said Mathis.
The event runs through February 19th and will feature concerts following each night of competition.
