As those in the pine belt continue to rebuild following
January’s storms, another round of severe weather is expected to hit parts of the entire state Tuesday morning and run through the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) showers and thunderstorms will begin to pop up Monday night, shifting into severe weather Tuesday morning.
Greg Garrett is with NWS and said this storm is expected to be different than most storms this time of year. He said, usually the storms are a more wide spread squall line.
“Most of the area may end up getting some storms, however, they are going to be scattered in nature, not everyone is going to see rain,” said Garrett.
Nicholas Fenner is also with NWS and said that the storms should starting moving into the state around 6 a.m. or 7 a.m., Tuesday morning.
With these storms comes the potential of large hail, strong winds and tornadoes.
“There will be enough shear for some tornadoes to develop, but we are not looking for a wide spread outbreak,” said Garrett.
The NWS expects Tuesdays storms to impact the eastern and central parts of the state.
North Mississippi, has a 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 72. South southwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Tonight, a 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
In Southern Mississippi, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. It looks to be Cloudy, with a high near 70. South wind 10 to 15 mph. Tonight, mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
For Central Mississippi, there is 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. South southwest winds 10 to 15 mph are expected with gusts as high as 20 mph. Tonight, mostly cloudy, with a low around 61.
