JACKSON, Miss.–Some parts of the Magnolia State will hit 95 and go past it on the thermometer this week, beginning today. Central and south Mississippi and the coast have the potential for seeing 95 and 96, respectively.
With that, the heat index was expected to reach 101, which is not quite to the danger level of 105, but still feels plenty hot.
Friday’s high temp of 97 degrees for the same areas will come with a heat index at around 102.
You’re encouraged to stay out of that kind of heat as much as possible and to drink plenty of fluids. That’s mainly water or Gatorade, not beer or Coke.
You’ll also want to plan for as many breaks as possible if you have be out in the heat and you’ll want to check on elderly neighbors and make sure your pets have plenty of water.
At a heat index of 105 the danger of heat stroke comes into play.
