National Guard Unit Set to Leave for Middle East

CALHOUN CITY, Miss.–More Mississippi guardsmen are set to leave their loved ones for the Middle East this weekend. A send-off ceremony for Miss. National Guard 858th Engineering Company has been set for Saturday at 11 on the Calhoun City town square, where the unit is based.

There are about 150 team members that will be going to Afghanistan, said the National Guard. They were expected to help with base closures.

The guardsmen will first go to Camp Shelby near Hattiesburg for training.
