TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – On a tough day for the visiting team, Mississippi State (4-6, 2-4 SEC) fell to top-ranked Alabama (10-0, 7-0) by a score of 51-3 in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
The Crimson Tide jumped out to a quick start, scoring on their first two drives and maintaining control of the game for the duration of play.
Despite some struggles on the offensive end, senior wide receiver Fred Ross‘s 23 yards helped him break Chad Bumphis’ record for most career receiving yards in MSU history. Sophomore quarterback Nick Fitzgerald finished 10-of-33 for 145 yards against a stout Alabama defense. Donald Gray hauled in three receptions for 76 yards.
On the other side, Tide freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts had a career day as he passed for 347 yards and four touchdowns on his home turf. Senior linebacker DeAndre Ward led MSU with seven tackles. Jamoral Graham had an interception of Hurts in the first half.
The Bulldogs return home next Saturday, Nov. 19, to continue play in the SEC West, hosting Arkansas at Davis Wade Stadium. That contest will kickoff at 6 p.m. CT and be televised by ESPN2 or ESPNU.
