JACKSON, MISS– With President-elect Donald Trump having the opportunity to build his Cabinet, speculation has circulated over the role Governor Phil Bryant would take, if any.
On Tuesday, ahead of any of the astounding election numbers rolling in, Governor Bryant was asked about a “rumor” that perhaps he would be fielding a phone call from Donald Trump regarding a Secretary of Agriculture position.
“I’ve heard that rumor too,” said Governor Phil Bryant. “And it would be an honor for the state of Mississippi to be part of Donald Trump’s legacy.”
However, Governor Bryant did not state if any such offer had been made, or if he would take it if it was.
Political analyst and Y’all Politics writer Frank Corder commented on the possibility.
“That’s an interesting scenario there.. Governor Bryant is term-limited, he can’t run again,” said Corder. “If he was to take an appointment with the new Trump administration as the Secretary of Agriculture, that could be a good thing for Mississippi.”
Corder said there are a couple of factors that could prevent the Governor’s acceptance, mainly that his family is settled in Mississippi.
If Governor Bryant were to take a position in D.C., Lt. Governor Tate Reeves would take his seat.
Things could get interesting.
