WINONA, Miss. – What was originally thought to be a death by wildfire has now been blamed on natural causes.
MFC firefighters were called to Montgomery County in late October after it was reported that a man had lost control of a field burn.
When authorities arrived they found 63-year-old Joseph Henson dead on the scene.
Montgomery County Coroner Allen Prat said, “The medical examiners office in Pearl notified me that the death of Joseph Henson was ruled a natural death. His death occurred before the fire.”
Despite rainfall earlier in the week, 76 counties remain under burn bans in Mississippi. Burn bans mean no outdoor burning is allowed. That includes campfires, bonfires, fire pits, fire rings, fireworks, burn barrels, brush piles, debris burning, field burning and anything else that could produce an ember with potential to start a wildfire.
