JACKSON, MISS– High turnout for Election Day has been reported across the state.
Voter turnout has remained high throughout the later part of the afternoon statewide.
In Central Mississippi, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said problems were minimal.
“Our Elections Division continues to address and answer individual questions,” Secretary Hosemann said. “So far, problems at the polls reported to our Agency have been minimal, isolated, and quickly rectified. Mississippians have been courteous to one another and to our poll workers, who are working hard to make sure voters are moved through polling places efficiently.”
Polls do not close until 7pm.
“Mississippi voters are encouraged to close strongly and take a few minutes to vote on the way home tonight,” Secretary Hosemann said. “Your country, military, and our State will be better for your participation.”
Along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, turnout was higher than usual and consistent throughout the day, said Correspondent Kipp Greggory.
And in North Mississippi, election officials are calling this “one for the record books.” Correspondent Rick Mize reporting:

A correspondent for News Mississippi has learned that Marion, in Lauderdale County, and Duffee, in Newton County, had a great early morning voter response.
“There is a line of about 75 people waiting five minutes before the polls open in Marion,” a voter said.
Over in Newton County, all was running efficiently.
“Duffee, a small precinct in Newton County had a great turnout. Over 80 already voted (as of 9am),” said correspondent Wanda Harrison.
Along the Mississippi Gulf Coast there were some voting issues early on, but that did not deter the crowd, according to correspondent Kipp Greggory.
And in North Mississippi, lines nearly five blocks long have been reported by correspondent Rick Mize.
