JACKSON, Miss.- BMW has announced a recall of more than 154,000 cars and SUVs for a wiring problem that could be causing engines to stall.
The recall is for the U.S. and Canada, on 5-Series and X5 models and some 6-Series and X6 vehicles that were made between 2007 and 2012.
The company is saying that during manufacturing of the vehicles, wiring to fuel pumps inside the gas tank may not have been crimped correctly, causing the wires to possibly come loose and melt a connector. This would then cause a gas leak, which would stop the fuel pump from working and the engines would eventually stall.
Dealers have been instructed to replace the fuel pump module for free. The recall is expected to happen December 5.
No injuries or accidents have been reported as a result of this problem.
