JACKSON, MISS– An alert was sent to employees at the University of Mississippi Medical Center that said an active shooting was taking place.
That alert was sent by mistake, said UMMC Public Relations Director Marc Rolph.
“The alert system is tested weekly,” said Rolph. “and generally, people outside the system operators are none-the-wiser. But this time there was a mistake and the alert was broadcast out.”
The alert instructed the employees to run, hide, or fight if necessary, then another message was sent that explained the alert was a mistake.
