GULFPORT, Miss.–A day of fun turned into a time of tragedy Tuesday on Gulfport Lake. The Harrison County coroner said 15-year-old Mason Turner of Saucier, was killed when the inner tube he was on hit a tree.
The incident happened on the Industrial Canal at about 4 p.m. A boat being driven by a family friend was pulling the tube. It went around a curve. The tube went wide, toward the bank, and hit the tree.
One other person was hurt and taken to the hospital.
The Dept. of Marine Resources is in charge of the investigation and told local media they did not believe there were drugs or alcohol involved, but that the boat’s driver would be tested. That’s standard procedure.
