JACKSON, Miss. – Movers-and-shakers of the Mississippi political arena were at the 15th annual Hobnob Mississippi Wednesday.
Hosted by the Mississippi Economic Council, the majority of the speakers boasted about the progress the state’s made in economic development.
Attorney General Jim Hood was the lone democrat to to speak at the event. He accused the Republican controlled legislature of wasting time fighting for House Bill 1523. The bill, which passed the state legislature but was blocked by a federal judge for being unconstitutional, would have allowed businesses the right to refuse service to those whose lifestyles went against the business owner’s faith.
Hood said that the time wasted fighting for 1523 should have been channeled towards fixing Mississippi roadways.
The rest of the morning session for the Hobnob event was spent by Republican leadership boasting of the achievements of Mississippi in the past year.
