Phantom of the Opera set to open at USM

HATTIESBURG, Miss.- The University of Southern Miss School of Music has announced they will be featuring a production of the Phantom of the Opera next fall.

According to the USM, the same team responsible for bringing Mary Poppins to life on the stage at the University will also produce the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic.

The musical will be directed by Dr. Mike Lopinto, with musical direction by Dr. Jay Dean and Dr. Michael Miles.

“The ability to produce a musical of this caliber and scale is a testament to the incredible combination of a wonderful creative team in cooperation with a talented faculty and staff that is gifted with some of the most versatile and dynamic performers,” said Dr. Richard Kravchak, director of The School of Music.

Auditions are set for April 2017, and tickets will also become available shortly after. Only Southern Miss students are permitted to be apart of the show due to licensing restrictions.

The show will be performed on the stage of the Mannoni Performing Arts Center Auditorium.

“Phantom of the Opera is the most iconic and longest running show on Broadway,” said Miles. “I am thrilled to be working with an exceptional creative team in bringing this legendary musical to our community.”
