JACKSON, Miss.- Students and faculty at Jackson State University held a vigil on Thursday night for JSU student Benjamin Sabine who was found dead in his dorm room earlier this week.
Hundreds of classmates, friends and family gathered at Reddix Hall to celebrate and remember the life of Sabine with candlelight.
The event was organized by students and in attendance was Benjamin’s father, Sammy Sabine. Those that gathered released balloons in Sabine’s honor.
Sabine was found by his suitemate after he became suspicious when he hadn’t seen the young man all day Monday after coming back from out of town.
The county coroner believes that his body had been there undetected for several days.
