RAYMOND, Miss.–Inmates were back in their cells and once again under lock and key after they were able to get out Sunday. That was the second inmate incident at the embattled Hinds County Detention Center in the past several days.
Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis said there were no injuries in the Sunday happening that involved about 15 inmates who were able to pop faulty locks and get out to protest privileges being taken away.
Law enforcement, including a SWAT team from Jackson, had to be called in to help detention officers regain control of the part of the jail where the inmates got out.
Thursday inmates flooded cells in a similar uprising.
The jail has a history of inmate troubles where they have been able to get out and even riot last year. There were injuries then and since that time there have been calls for the funding and building of a new jail.
