Jobless Numbers Slightly Lower in Miss.

JACKSON, Miss.–The latest numbers for unemployment are out from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Mississippi still has a dismal ranking.

The unemployment rate for the month of June dropped slightly to 9 percent in the state, but the main cause for that was fewer people were looking for work and the workforce was therefore smaller.

The exact number was 8,000 people fewer in the work force.

Mississippi had 117,500 unemployed people in June, down just a little bit from 119,500 in May.

Only Nevada and Illinois had a higher unemployment rate than Mississippi with 9.6 percent and 9.2 percent respectively.

The national unemployment rate stayed constant at 7.6 percent.
