JACKSON, Miss.- The Mississippi Department of Corrections recently postponed the new visitor policy for inmates at the facility. Previously, it was decided that only immediate family (spouse, parents, children etc) would be allowed during visiting hours, and in groups no larger than 10. However, those decisions have been postponed until further notice.
Questions were raised by pastors and the ACLU, who would have been taken off the visitor list under the new rule.
Many speculate that the decision was made after issues regarding contraband being brought into the facility. Family members say they understand the concern, but suggest that MDOC officials should be monitored more closely before restrictions to visiting hours take effect.
There is no confirmed date as to when the changes will take effect.
