JACKSON, Miss.- In May, the Mississippi Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks passed a rule that deer carcasses could no longer be brought into the state from 24 other states and 3 countries.
The group said that the motivation behind the ban is to keep chronic wasting disease that can cause deer to have tremors, other movement problems, and lose weight away from Mississippi.
The rule also includes elk, moose, and caribou from the infected areas. However, deer that are killed on the Arkansas side of the Mississippi River levees are still allowed back into the state.
Hunters are still permitted to bring deboned meat, antlers, and things created by a taxidermist.
