JACKSON, Miss.- After flooding ravaged through Louisiana and South Mississippi, The American Red Cross and The Salvation Army are stepping up and extending a helping hand.
Shelters have opened and meals are being handed out to flood victims. The Natchez shelter is housing nearly 70 people with the Red Cross.
The Salvation Army is also bringing in more food and crews to get to people that can’t get to them.
For example, The Salvation Army has a crew in McComb that is going around in the “mobile feeding unit.” They are stocked with nearly 300 meals for victims and first responders.
MEMA Director Lee Smithson says the best way to help out is to go through one of these organizations and encourages people not to just ‘show up’ to a disaster zone and try to pitch in. Contact the Red Cross or Salvation Army and get plugged in where you can be best utilized.
