OXFORD, Miss.- Officers and media members gathered at Ole Miss this week to discuss how to better work together to provide the public with accurate and relevant news stories.
Over 100 officers were in attendance to ask reporter questions and vice versa. The discussion centered around the most recent events involving police officers and the negative light that has been shed on them.
Officers were given the opportunity to question journalists on why certain stories were highlighted over others, and their methods on selecting headlines and airing specific interviews from bystanders.
Many of the cops that attended told reporters and news managers they felt attacked by the recent media coverage when it involves police officers.
Reporters were also given the opportunity to talk to the officers and maintain an understanding of what it is like to be in their shoes everyday.
The National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, which is a non-profit group has reported that 32 officers were shot and killed while on the clock this year alone.
