JACKSON, Miss.- Planning to hunt some alligator this year? You can get your permit starting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19.
UPDATE: From the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, permits are officially sold out. The department was out of them by only 10:20 a.m, according to a tweet from MDWFP.
The permits cost $150 each, along with a $25 fee for an alligator hunting license. Rules say that each person is limited to one license, which allows for the hunting of two alligators over four feet long, but only one of them can be larger than 7 feet.
The season begins at noon on August 26 and runs through September 5th.
Last year there was a record high of alligators harvested with the final total at 982.
