Mississippians are paying more for electricity than most states, according to a study by personal finance website WalletHub.
On the list of 2016’s Most and Least Energy Expensive States, Mississippi placed in the top ten in three categories.
Mississippi ranked the tenth most energy expensive state in the United States, and second in the country for fuel consumption per driver and fourth in electricity consumption per consumer.
On average, Mississippians pay a monthly energy bill of $323, stated the report.
Entergy Mississippi has lowered their rates with the implementation of solar energy, according to the company. Rates have fluctuated in parts of the state for Mississippi Power customers to cover costs of building the Kemper County plant. Rates were ordered to be locked in and refunds were issued by order of the Mississippi Public Service Commission.
The most expensive states found in the study were Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont. The least expensive were Colorado, D.C., and Washington.
