BILOXI, MISS– The Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources on Tuesday certified four saltwater recreational fishing records. All records were set using conventional tackle.
David Floyd of Pascagoula set the record for Striped Burrfish (Chilomycterus schoepfil) with a 1-pound, 9.65-ounce fish caught May 3. The previous record was 1 pound, 4 ounces and was set on June 7, 2008.
Todd Rosetti of Biloxi set the record for Smooth Puffer (Lagocephalus laevigutus) with a 6-pound, 6.4-ounce fish caught May 1. The previous record was 5 pounds, .04 ounces and was set May 6, 2000.
Antonio Rubio of Bay Minette, Ala., set the record for Red Drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) with a 52-pound, 2.4-ounce fish caught May 26. The previous record was 44 pounds and was set in 1970.
Jimmy Taylor of Biloxi established a state record for Keeltail Pomfret (Taractes rubescens) with a 14-pound, 3.82-ounce fish caught on May 30.
