JACKSON, Miss.- Planning to move but dreading the packing and unpacking? Hiring a professional could be an effective alternative.
Scott Michael, president and CEO of American Moving and Storage Association, said moving can be a hassle regardless of age.
Having professional movers could remove the stress of the move, however, there are some tips to consider.
Make sure the mover has a license and are a legitimate professional. Michael shared a story of one family who answered a Craigslist add. When the “movers” arrived they loaded up the family’s possessions on a U-Haul and left. Unfortunately, they never arrived at the second destination.
“Check and see if they have a rating with the Better Business Bureau,” Michael said.
He said checking with friends and family on who they have used to move can help in narrowing down who to hire.
“The most important things is to try and do your research ahead of time, do your planning. Investigate the companies you are trying to use and make sure you’re going to go with a professional mover that is going to do a good job for you,” Michael said.
