Report: Gov. Bryant Near Top Third in Leading Job-Growth

JACKSON, Miss.–A report released at the end of June put Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant near the top one-third in job-creation compared to his governor counterparts around the country.

The report, that can be found here by www.bizjournals.com, ranks Gov. Bryant 14th for job-creation for the work he’s completed since taking office.

“Since I’ve taken office, we’ve announced the creation of more than 6,300 new jobs and more than $1 billion in private sector investment,” said Gov. Bryant last week when speaking on the Miss. economy. “Companies like Yokohoma, GE and Roxul can choose where to do business, and they are choosing Mississippi because Mississippi Works.”

This ranking comes on the heels of the news that the state revenue collections for 2013 will exceed the Sine Die estimate by about $295 million, which is the estimated number that the state legislature agrees upon when ending the budgeting process.

“I am very pleased to see Mississippi’s economy showing such strong evidence of improvement. We are working hard to build a business-friendly climate that attracts new jobs and new business investment, and we are seeing the results,” Gov. Bryant said.

In the report the top-five governors listed for job-creation were all Republicans including Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam.

“Mississippi is working,” Gov. Bryant said of the state’s success. “We don’t intend to stop.”
