Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced that beginning Thursday, May 1, all waters south of the Intracoastal Waterway and west of the Gulfport Ship Channel will be closed to shrimping.
While the annual closure for waters west of the channel will go into effect at 12:01 a.m., waters south of the Intracoastal Waterway and east of the channel will remain open to shrimping as provided by law and regulations of MDMR.

All rules set forth in MDMR’s regulations remain in full force, including boats engaged in catching or transporting shrimp in or from Mississippi waters must be licensed by the state.
