Night owls in Mississippi will soon have the chance to enjoy one of the state’s top museums after hours.
On Friday, May 9, the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science will be hosting an “Owl Prowl,” inviting the public to enjoy the state’s nighttime wildlife. From 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m., guests of all ages will be able to explore the museum after hours, meet live owls up close, and take a guided night hike in search of the mysterious birds of prey.

Attendees will also learn more about where owls live and how to listen for and identify different species of the hooting bird.
“Owls are fascinating creatures with incredible adaptations for life after dark. This event gives guests a rare chance to experience the Museum at night and connect with nature in a whole new way,” museum education coordinator Katie Tupy said.
Other activities at the event will be live animal programs featuring owls and other nocturnal animals, nighttime insects on display, a tutorial on how to make owl and bat crafts, and dissect owl pellets. To cap the night, folks can gather around campfire on site and enjoy s’mores.
