JACKSON, MISS– If you’re waiting for your state tax refund to go on a vacation or to put down some cash on that new TV, you may be waiting for a little while longer.
State agencies are hurting from recent state budget cuts, and it is having an impact on your wallet. The Mississippi Department of Revenue had to send home 35 temporary mail workers because of the cuts to their budget.
With thousands of returns mailed in each year, this means people are having to work weekends and late hours on top of their own jobs to process the refunds. Because of this, MDR says you can expect a delay on your state refund.
The department suffered a cut of over one million dollars.
