A Mississippi Gulf Coast man has been indicted for allegedly burning down a Mormon church.
A federal grand jury indicted Stefan Day, also known as “Stefan Pete Day Rowold,” on six federal charges related to arson and civil rights violations.

Day is accused of setting fire to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Wiggins on July 5 and July 7, 2024. He faces multiple charges, including arson, intentional destruction of religious property, and using fire to commit a federal felony.
If convicted, Day faces up to 20 years in prison for each arson charge, up to 20 years for civil rights violations, and a minimum of 10 years for using fire to commit a felony.
The FBI Jackson field office led the investigation with support from federal and state agencies. The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi and the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.
