Late SuperTalk Mississippi radio host Paul Gallo continues to be remembered after passing away at age 77. On Monday, the Mississippi Top 50 announced it was inducting Gallo and his iconic voice into its Hall of Fame.
“For three decades, Paul Gallo was the voice of Mississippi, interviewing the ‘movers, shakers, and playmakers,’ and helping to drive positive change from behind the mic,” a social media post from the Mississippi Top 50 reads, giving an ode to one of Gallo’s most famous quips. “We honor his life of impact through induction into the Mississippi Top 50 Hall of Fame this year.”
For over five decades, Gallo was a mainstay across Mississippi’s airwaves. He began his journey behind the microphone at age 21, working for a station in his Delta homeland. From disc jockey to program director, from sales and management to ownership, Gallo mastered every facet of the industry.
He joined SuperTalk Mississippi in 1990, and his name quickly became synonymous with excellence in radio, most notably as the host of The Gallo Radio Show every weekday morning.
Captivating listeners from across the state, Gallo had a special ability in segueing human interest and news stories into political issues that mattered to Mississippians. Dubbed the “Godfather” of talk radio in Mississippi, Gallo could make you laugh, make you mad, and make you think. That’s what made him such a great radio host.
The latest honor for Gallo, who passed away in January after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer, comes on the heels of the U.S. Senate taking time to honor him inside the chamber as local, state, and national leaders continue to celebrate his memory. Gallo’s induction into the Mississippi Top 50 Hall of Fame is the final flourish for an organization that named him one of the most influential Mississippians on three separate occasions.
“Paul Gallo was not just a cornerstone of SuperTalk, he was the heartbeat of Mississippi itself,” SuperTalk Mississippi Media owner Steve Davenport said. “His passion for our state and its people transformed our network into a powerful platform for truth and connection. Paul’s unwavering commitment to sharing the stories that matter most has left an indelible mark on our company and on the very fabric of Mississippi. We are incredibly grateful that Paul is being honored with the MS Top 50 Hall of Fame award, a testament to his profound impact on Mississippi. His legacy will continue to inspire and resonate throughout our state for generations to come.”
Gallo, alongside former NFL quarterback Archie Manning and former Mississippi GOP chair Jeanne Luckey, will be inducted into the Mississippi Top 50 Hall of Fame on Wednesday, March 12.
