Belhaven University is mourning the loss of one of its student-athletes, sophomore track and field standout Natalie Black.
Black passed away in her sleep on March 1 after a meet in Clinton, per a report from WLBT-TV. The private college in Jackson confirmed her death in a social media post Friday morning as friends, teammates, and family members gathered at the Division III school’s track for a candlelight vigil later in the evening.
Black was a native of Terry. In her final event, the Mississippi College Spring Cleaning Classic, she placed second in the triple jump.
No information on her cause of death has been released at this time. She was 19 years old at the time of her passing.
