CHICKASAW COUNTY, Miss.–Grief, probably the best word to describe reaction on social media to the death of Ole Miss offensive lineman Park Stevens. The 20-year-old New Hope High School grad, from Columbus, hit the back of an 18-wheeler that was crossing the highway in front of him Wednesday afternoon.
The Highway Patrol said the wreck happened about 3 p.m. as Stevens was driving on Hwy. 45 Alternate when the 18 wheeler crossed from Egypt Rd. in front of his pickup. Stevens hit the rear of the truck and died at the scene.
The wreck was reported in the media not long after it happened. Stevens’ friends and family then started posting messages of grief and condolences on Twitter and Facebook.
“Our team is hurting tonight with the loss of Park,” said Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze in a statement Wednesday night. “He was a tremendous young man that was loved by his teammates and coaches, and Rebel Nation will never forget him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Stevens family, his friends, our team and all those he touched during his life.”
