OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss.- Ocean Springs Upper Elementary was named the “Healthiest School in Mississippi,” by The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation.
They were awarded a $50,000 grant along with the honor. The grant will go to build a new obstacle course playground, cafeteria, P.E. equipment, and a staff fitness room.
Assistant Principal Mary Rodgers told WLOX, “Oh man, we were so excited! We jumped up and down and couldn’t believe it.”
The school was recognized due to their involvement with teacher weight loss challenges, as well as community fun runs and health fairs.
Other schools in the area made the top of the list as well. Ocean Springs High and 28th St. Elementary both received $25,00 for their efforts in healthy living.
