JACKSON –House democrats came together today to offer criticism to this year’s legislative body.
“We have all heard about our crumbling and dangerous roads and bridges, our chronically underfunded public schools and the dire situation faced by our community healthcare system. Instead of addressing these critical public policy issues, our legislative leaders have chosen to attempt to distract you by emphasizing legislation that plays to our baser instincts. But, Mississippians are too smart to be fooled by the legislative slight of hand that has been practiced in this session”, said House Minority Leader Rep. David Baria of Bay St. Louis.
“It is the hope of this Caucus that if the leaders under this dome will listen to the people who send us to Jackson they will return in 2017 dedicated to working in bipartisan fashion to address the problems of everyday Mississippi working families. That is what we ask them to do. That is after all what we were elected to do.”
Democrats have also criticized the Republican leadership for facing budget downfalls in the millions, but still granting tax cuts.
