A public visitation and celebration of life will be held for Hinds County deputy Martin Shields, Jr., who was slain in the line of duty over the weekend.
Sheriff Tyree Jones took to social media to post the details. The visitation will be held at Westhaven Funeral Home on Robinson Road in Jackson on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The celebration of life service will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Jackson Revival Center on Terry Road.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Deputy Martin Shields, Jr., who bravely lost his life in the line of duty,” a statement from the deceased’s family reads. “Deputy Shields served with honor, courage, and unwavering dedication to protecting and serving his community.”

Shields, 37, was shot and killed while responding to a domestic call for service at a home on Midway Road in Terry on Sunday night. Eric Brown, 42, was also discovered dead inside the residence. Brown is believed to have opened fire on Shields while also shooting his wife and a “female accomplice” at the residence. Both women were hospitalized.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assessing the fatal incident.
