The latest D1 Baseball top 25 features all three clubs, with the Bulldogs holding at No. 18 as the Golden Eagles and Rebels make their debut in the 2025 rankings.
Mississippi State (6-1) held onto its current ranking after bringing out the brooms to sweep a tough Missouri State club after failing to score a run at Southern Miss on Tuesday night.
Ace pitcher Pico Kohn shined on the mound for the Diamond Dogs on Friday, striking out 11 batters and only allowing one earned run over 6.1 innings pitched. Third baseman Ace Reece was prolific at the plate in the three-game affair, mounting a triple, a home run, and six RBI.
The Bulldogs will return to the diamond on Tuesday at 4 p.m. to face No. 21 Troy before heading out to Texas to face three different opponents in the Astros Foundation College Classic.
CBSB weekend recap: Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Southern Miss continue strong start
Southern Miss (7-1) seized a golden opportunity to earn much-deserved respect across the college baseball scene this past week. The Golden Eagles dominated on the mound in a midweek outing against an in-state foe, shutting out Mississippi State 3-0. Christian Ostrander’s club then took care of business in the first two games of its weekend series against La Tech, earning the No. 22 slot.
Left-handed hurler Kros Sivley showed out in game two, striking out nine batters while only surrendering one earned run over six innings pitched. Right fielder Carson Paetow ended the series with two home runs and seven RBI.
The Golden Eagles will travel north for a Tuesday afternoon midweek showdown against Ole Miss at 4 p.m. before heading out to Fort Worth to battle No. 25 TCU in a three-game weekend series.
Ole Miss (6-1) was the penultimate team in the rankings, securing the No. 24 spot after squeaking out an extra-innings midweek win over Arkansas State and sweeping a winless Eastern Kentucky club.
Rebel ace pitcher Hunter Elliott continued to dominate on the mound as he struck out 10 batters and only allowed three hits in six scoreless innings. Freshman Hayden Federico continued to make an argument to be a permanent feature in Mike Bianco’s starting lineup as he had a weekend batting average of .571 with a double and two RBI, while reaching home plate three times.
Ole Miss will host Southern Miss on Tuesday and welcome Wright State to Swayze Field for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday afternoon.
