Following severe weather that trekked across the state on Wednesday, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency confirmed tornadoes touched down in Wayne and Marion counties.
As damage surveys continue, Friday’s report from MEMA noted that 53 homes and six businesses were damaged by the storms. Two injuries, both of which were in Wayne County, have also been reported:
- Marion County: 15 damaged homes, four damaged businesses
- Wayne County: 38 damaged homes, two damaged businesses, two injuries
“Those numbers are expected to change during the assessment and validation process,” MEMA officials noted, adding tarps and other supplies have already been deployed to impacted areas.
MEMA encourages people to report any damage through the agency’s online portal. Residents should also file an insurance claim and take photos of any property damage.
