Less than a year after skeletal remains were discovered at a Flowood pond, answers have finally been made available.
Rankin County Coroner David Ruth reports that the remains found by a group of juvenile fishermen at a restricted area at the old Primos Lake last May are those of 53-year-old Stephen Jason Rosa, a native of Madison County. The minors had allegedly found a leg with a sock on it before a skull was later spotted.
According to a release from law enforcement, Ridgeland police had been conducting an active missing persons investigation on Rosa since he was last seen alive in late November 2023. Following the discovery, the remains were sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for preliminary examination. To further assist with identification, forensic specialists transferred the remains to Othram DNA Lab in the Woodlands, Texas.
Advanced DNA testing and forensic genealogy analysis conducted by Othram led to the positive identification of Rosa.
“We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Rosa during this difficult time. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” a statement from the Flowood Police Department reads.
Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding Rosa’s death. At this time, no further details are available, but authorities are committed to determining the events leading to his death. Anyone with information connected to this case is urged to contact law enforcement.
