An assistant women’s basketball coach at Holmes Community College passed away in a car wreck on Sunday.
Brooke Walker was on Interstate 55 north of Canton when the vehicle she was in collided with an embankment and overturned, according to officials. The crash is being investigated by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Walker was in her fourth season with the Bulldogs after previously serving as head coach for the junior high and high school girls’ teams at Humphreys Academy in Belzoni. The former MAIS Single-A Coach of the Year won a state championship while at Humphreys Academy.
Holmes Community College Athletics issued a statement on social media, asking for prayers for Walker’s family and the community college.
Walker played high school basketball at Copiah Academy, where she was an all-star and team MVP. She continued her playing career at Northwest Mississippi Community College before graduating from the University of Mississippi and becoming a coach.
