Art students in Mississippi are getting the chance to earn some scholarship money for their work.
State Treasurer David McRae announced that the 2025 College and Career Savings Art Contest is open from now through February 28, giving pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade pupils an opportunity to showcase their talents and win a financial reward in the process.
Students can enter the contest by signing up on the state treasurer’s website and submitting a piece of artwork that answers the question: “What do you want to do when you grow up?”
Scholarships will be awarded to the first, second, and third-place winners in each of the following categories:
- Pre-kindergarten through 2nd Grade
- 3rd Grade through 5th Grade
- 6th Grade through 8th Grade
- 9th Grade through 12th Grade
All first-place winners will receive $1,000 scholarships. A $1,000 scholarship will also be awarded to the teacher with the highest number of submissions from their classroom. A grand total of $8,000 in scholarship money will be awarded.
“Every year, students from all over the great state of Mississippi submit their beautiful artwork for this contest, and I’m always amazed by the talent,” McRae said. “Over the years, the College and Career Savings team has provided thousands of scholarships to talented students to continue to pursue their passions. I’m looking forward to this year’s contest and seeing what these gifted students are able to create!”
The winners in each category will receive a Mississippi Affordable College Savings (MACS) account scholarship. This account operates like a tax-advantaged savings account. Per the treasurer, the funds can be used for almost any educational expense from laptops to classroom supplies for teachers.
