COLUMBUS, Miss.- Bennie Walton was struck by a train in Columbus.
Walton, 56, was on his way to the convenient store when he climbed under the train Monday evening. The train was parked at the switch yard when Walton was underneath it and it began moving.
He was run over by the train and his leg was severed.
Walton was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, initially, but then transferred to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson where doctors were attempting to reattach the limb.
