CLINTON, Miss.- The Mississippi Department of Education has been reviewing policy that would regulate when students can be physically restrained and placed in secluded places after a behavioral issue has occurred. This isn’t the first time a policy proposal has come up. Just last year the department discussed a change but held off for further consideration.
Thursday the board approved the policy and will allow thirty days for the public to comment on it before it goes into effect.
The policy would require for parents to be called the same day any type of restraint or seclusion punishment took place. This would also require state tracking.
Individuals who are against this form of punishment in the first place say that this policy is an improvement from the board and were glad to see it approved.
