McComb’s police chief is back on duty after a brief stint on administrative leave as the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation continues to assess an officer-involved shooting that claimed the life of a teenager.
Chief Juan Cloy returned to his role on Monday after being placed on leave on November 21. The chief’s time away from his law enforcement responsibilities followed a November 14 shooting in which Jamarion Seiber, 16, was shot and killed by police. According to authorities, McComb police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle that night.
Mayor Quordiniah Lockley told WJTV that a group of young men wearing hoodies had been flashing firearms out of the vehicle, startling community members. When officers arrived at a location on 25th Street, two people were said to have gotten out of the reported vehicle. One brandished a weapon, prompting officers to discharge their firearms, killing Seiber. An unidentified individual was arrested at the scene.
The vehicle in question fled as authorities believe three to four additional suspects were inside at the time of the incident. Later that night, law enforcement confirmed the 2016 Dodger Charger had been found but not the other suspects.
At this time, the suspects who fled remain at large. State investigators have yet to report their findings from the fatal shooting. Once they do, the information will be passed over to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
