With data showing that 1 in 6 Mississippians could go underfed this holiday season, SuperTalk Mississippi Media is on your side when it comes to finding food for you and your loved ones.
The Mississippi State Medical Association, in partnership with the Mississippi Food Network, SuperTalk Mississippi Media, Ergon, and Atmos Energy, will be hosting a holiday food drive in Jackson on Friday, December 13. The drive will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Kroger at 4910 I-55.
For those who want to help:
- Donations of nonperishable food items can be delivered to the drive, going to fill the Mississippi Food Network’s truck that delivers to hungry people statewide.
- Monetary contributions can be made in person or online with the first $10,000 raised being matched. According to the Mississippi Food Network, just $10 can provide 60 meals to neighbors in need.
- Spread the word to friends and family to join the cause!
As Mississippi continues to rank last in the U.S. in food security, SuperTalk Mississippi Media hopes everyone will take some time to donate to the drive, whether in person or through the donation link.
“With the season of giving here, we would greatly appreciate if everyone who is able will take some time to donate either nonperishable food items or make a monetary donation to help our neighbors in need,” SuperTalk Mississippi Media President & CEO Kim Dillon said. “The Mississippi State Medical Association, the Mississippi Food Network, and all the other great partners are working to truly make a difference here, not just in Jackson but statewide.”
While the in-person portion of the food drive won’t take place until Friday, December 13, the donation link opened Tuesday morning for those who would like to go ahead and support.
