The Mississippi Hospital Association (MHA) recently announced Chamath Wijewardane as its new chief information officer.
Wijewardane joins the statewide trade organization that represents the interests of over 75 hospitals after serving in the same position with the Mississippi Division of Medicaid. According to a press release, Wijewardane brings over 20 years of executive information technology leadership to the MHA.
“We are thrilled to welcome Chamath back to the MHA in this key leadership position,” MHA President and CEO Richard Roberson said. “His deep understanding of healthcare IT, combined with his passion for improving patient outcomes through technology, will strengthen our efforts to support hospitals and healthcare providers across Mississippi.”
As Roberson noted, Wijewardane was with MHA before the Mississippi Division of Medicaid. Previously, he served as director of IT solutions and “introduced new IT solutions that added significant value to member hospitals.”
“From improving efficiency and cooperation to reshaping the way patient data is managed, information technology plays a pivotal role in facilitating the delivery of quality healthcare,” Wijewardane said. “MHA is committed to using IT to help move its efforts and healthcare in Mississippi to the next level, and I am excited to join the team.”
Wijewardane has also held leadership roles at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Baptist Memorial Healthcare Corporation, St. Dominic Hospital, and OCH Regional Medical Center. He holds degrees from both Mississippi State University and the University of Wyoming.
